In Theaters: The Captain; The Third Murder; McQueen; Puzzle; Mission Impossible: Fallout; Ryuchi Sakamoto: Coda.

The Captain: "Each hostile gesture, each harsh act suggests not just timelessness but cruel timeliness. The cold precision of Schwentke's filmmaking is augmented by the brute malice of Martin Todsharow's score." Review.

The Third Murder (Sandome no satsujin): "Themes bristle; ambiguity is a form of play; understated visual notions accrue in nourishing widescreen compositions; behavior is inexplicable; lyricism lies in a serene command of detail. This is a loving, lovely work by a master filmmaker." Review.

McQueen: "The filmmakers see the art, the hand that made the art, the joker, the trickster, the savant of beauty, sage of shock." Review.

Puzzle: "Think Jill Clayburgh in An Unmarried Woman; think Kelly Macdonald in Puzzle." Review.

Mission Impossible: Fallout: "McQuarrie's masterful rush of action is built upon a gargantuan budget, yet beauty lies in the smallest details, such as the precision and coordination of the baroque action scenes that is is spatially coherent to a fault. The eye is jolted and soothed.... Tom Cruise is the Job of work." Review.

Ryuchi Sakamoto: Coda: "Schible allows Sakamoto, a charismatic, charming presence, to gently thrill as he quests for, then discovers a sound, living eternally, entirely in the instant we are witnessing. The keyboard lives." Review.
